Feeling low

Feeling low or sad is something everyone goes through at different times. It happens when things don’t go as planned or when we face tough situations. Sometimes, sadness can be mild and go away quickly, but other times it can feel very strong and last longer. It’s okay to feel sad, but if you notice that you’re feeling sad for a long time and it stops you from enjoying things you used to love, it might be a good idea to talk to someone about it.

Things you can do

To feel better when you’re sad, try these ideas:

  • Talk to someone you trust: Sharing your feelings with a friend or family member can help you feel lighter.
  • Do something you enjoy: Doing things you love can help distract your mind and lift your mood, even if you don’t always feel like doing them.
  • Exercise regularly: Moving your body can boost your mood by releasing ‘happy chemicals’ in your brain called endorphins.
  • Practice mindfulness or relaxation: Activities like meditation, deep breathing, or yoga can help reduce stress and improve your emotional wellbeing.
